On Aikido
Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba in the 1920s and codified in 1942. Despite its relative youth, Aikido's core principles draw deeply from centuries of Japanese martial, philosophical, and cultural heritage.
At Seishinjuku Dojo, our training is based on three core principles:
Aikido's power delivery method is based on the traditional martial concept of One Point. This approach uses the body's natural functions to receive an opponent's energy and return it through the contact point, disrupting their balance. One Point is a unique physical approach that sets Aikido apart from modern sports and many other combat arts.
Aikido employs various joint manipulation techniques to resolve physical confrontations. Combined with One Point, these techniques offer tremendous potential for self-defense.
Aikido is not just a physical practice, but also a means of nurturing humanity and fostering unity among people and with nature. This spiritual impetus is deeply embedded in every technique and encourages practitioners to strive for proficiency through diligent development of techniques and spiritual awareness.
Aikido offers a unique path to self-discovery and physical and emotional growth for each practitioner. With lifelong enjoyment and friendship, practicing Aikido can be a fulfilling and rewarding journey.
